Josh Jacobs Injury Update: Star RB’s Status Revealed For Packers-Broncos

December 14, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is battling a knee injury ahead of the team’s showdown against the Denver Broncos, but a recent report has provided some clarity on the big-name weapon. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jacobs is “expected to go” and should start as Green Bay faces off against a strong Broncos squad. While this isn’t an official report, it appears as though Jacobs will play barring an unforeseen setback.

Josh Jacobs Injury Update: Packers RB Expected to Play Despite Knee Injury

This is not the first time Josh Jacobs has battled a knee injury this year. Originally suffering the ailment in Week 11 against the New York Giants, the former first-round pick missed Week 12 but returned to the field in Week 13. Jacobs looked like his old self against the Chicago Bears in Week 14, finishing the night with 86 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries while adding six yards on two receptions. If he plays, expect him to receive his usual workload.

Normally, third-year veteran Emanuel Wilson would be the unquestioned handcuff in this backfield. However, Green Bay’s second-string running back is battling an illness and could miss this week’s contest. If that happens, Chris Brooks and Pierre Strong will likely split carries. Brooks recorded eight attempts for 21 yards in Week 12 when Jacobs was sidelined, while the team already promoted Strong from the practice squad. So far on the season, the former fourth-round pick has yet to record a touch. Third-round pick MarShawn Lloyd, meanwhile, returned to practice after spending the year on the injured reserve but has apparently suffered a hamstring injury. Barring a surprise, the Packers won’t activate him.

Given the uncertainty in the backfield, the Packers better hope Josh Jacobs can overcome his knee injury and suit up against one of the best teams in the NFL.
