More on this storyline

Sean Cunningham: Domantas Sabonis’ 13 rebounds in the fourth quarter tonight in New Orleans are the most for a quarter in the Sacramento era, passing Kenny Thomas (12 in Q2 at Phoenix, 12/5/09). -via Twitter @SeanCunningham / February 13, 2025
James Ham: From Kings: Domantas Sabonis now has three career games with 25+ rebounds with Sacramento. He has tied Jack Coleman, Wayne Embry and Sam Lacey for the third-most 25-rebound performances in franchise history. -via Bluesky / February 13, 2025
Matt George: Earlier today, Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive made ANOTHER case for Domantas Sabonis to receive the All-Star recognition he deserves. The NBA selected Kyrie Irving instead. pic.x.com/ckrMGPUhsb -via Twitter @MattGeorgeSAC / February 10, 2025
Jorge Sierra: Kyle Lowry passed Tim Hardaway in assists last night for No. 19 all-time. Also: Damian Lillard moved ahead of Clyde Drexler for No. 37 in scoring. Devin Booker passed Richard Hamilton for No. 132. -via x.com / February 8, 2025
Finally, in the summer of 1995, five years after Lithuania broke free of a soon-to-crumble Soviet Union, a deal was struck. “If not NBA now, never,” Arvydas said then. “Last chance.” He turned 31 in his rookie season, was named to the All-Rookie first team, was a runner-up for Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year and averaged 23.6 points and 10.6 rebounds in the playoffs. Age and injuries had slowed him considerably, but he was still a force, which presented a tantalizing question that has lingered ever since: What if Arvydas Sabonis had come to the NBA in his prime? “We would have had four, five or six titles,” former Blazers great Clyde Drexler once told ESPN. “Guaranteed. He was that good.” -via ESPN / December 12, 2024

Former NHL player P.K. Subban: ‘If you’re really about it, if you’re really about sports, then you’re about two things: Your teammates and the fans. And I’m sorry, it doesn’t matter how much money you’re making. When you do not show up to play, you’re letting your teammates down. When you do not show up to play you’re letting the fans down that are paying you 40, 50, 60 million. I don’t care if you’re getting 300 million, congratulations, but these people in here are paying $2,500 a ticket, five grand, that are blue-collar, hard-working people. If you don’t get your head wrapped around that you shouldn’t be in pro sports, because how are we going to grow? How do we expect you to be an example? Well guess what, you don’t want to be? you are one. You’re on the biggest stage, you just said it, they make the most money, you’re an example. you got to show up. You gotta take that on. I’m sick and tired of making athletes greats, all-time greats, that are not the best examples. Those are the people that we want our kids, athletes to follow. That helps us in our game. Stephen A. Smith, you want athletes to be educated on this and understand this. They gotta understand the importance of showing up at the All-Star Game, and being on the court, and playing banged-up sometimes, and playing injured maybe at times, and participating. Because here’s the thing: because you’re making 100, 200, 300 million, you should be out there banged up. That’s why we pay you, is to max out. We talk about greatness and the longevity of somebody’s career. I don’t care if you play 50 years. I want your best 10. I want you on the court dominating. I want you to go all-out. I want Michael Jordan, I want Kobe Bryant. That’s what I want on every sport. That’s the guy that I follow. If you’re a different version than that, you don’t have my respect.’ -via reddit / February 21, 2025
Dave McMenamin: Austin Reaves on LeBron James’ 40 point game tonight on the 2nd night of a back-to-back at 40 years old: “He really doesn’t have anything else to prove. And if people say he does, then they’re Jordan fans” -via x.com / February 21, 2025
“Your game is very similar to MJ’s, but what move would you like to adapt to your bag from MJ?” Anthony Edwards: “No moves, man. Shout out to MJ—he the GOAT. I just wish y’all would stop comparing me to him.” -via YouTube / February 19, 2025
