What is the Micah Parsons Effect?

September 16, 2025 by Packers Talk

You might be asking yourself, what the heck is the Micah Parsons effect?

Well through two weeks, the Packers and the defense has certainly benefited from it.

You might have noticed the effect also when the Packers are on defense.

Quicker passes, getting the QB more often, turnovers?

Yes that is all of the Micah Parsons effect.

But what exactly is it?

Getting to the QB

packers swarming

The most obvious thing fans may notice is the amount of pressures and QB hits the Packers have.

Yes, Parsons can get to the QB but the majority of the focus is on Parsons, which it should be.

Parsons is kind of like the magnet that attracts attention.

What does that do?

That allows people like Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks and more to get to the QB.

Through two games Gary has 2.5 sacks and most of the attention is taken off of him.

Van Ness, who is looking for a year two jump has 0.5 sacks but he is getting more pressure on the QB.

Sometimes, it isn’t the sacks that matter though, if you affect the QB, most likely a mistake will happen.

The Parsons effect also helps the Packers defense as defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley doesn’t have to send extra men to get pressure.

Most of the time the pressure is by the Packers front four.

So definitely the front four have benefited from the Micah Parsons effect.

Quicker throws

Time in the pocket is a QB’s best friend, but when you have pressure in your face you have to make decisions faster.

Last year Parsons had the highest pressure rate in the NFL and that certainly shows in the first two games.

The Packers defense haven’t allowed a 100 yard receiver yet this season.

That is in part to the amount of time the QB has to throw.

If you don’t allow the time for routes to develop, you can’t go deep.

Quick decisions and quick throws also have a tendency to lead to turnovers.

That was the case in the first game against the Lions with Evan Williams first pick of the season.

With the Lions driving Parsons got in Jared Goff’s face and caused him to make a quick decision.

Instead though Goff threw a pick to Williams, who was waiting to jump the route.

The Packers CB have become more aggressive now because of the pressure the Packers Front four is getting, making their job so much easier.

Overall Effect

Overall the addition of Micah Parsons has really uplifted the Packers as a team.

Not only has the Micah Parsons effect affected the defense, but it has affected the offense as well.

Jordan Love feel more comfortable taking a deep shot down the field and using the passing game to his advantage.

But to the Packers players, there is a certain aura or confidence that Parsons has that has given the team a new found confidence.

The Packers went from just a good team to a team that can be a Super Bowl contender all with one player.

The scary part the Micah Parsons effect isn’t even in full effect.

Just wait till Parsons is on the field full time.

Now that is just scary.
