Wednesday Cheese Curds: Tucker Kraft wants a bigger role in the passing game

The third-year tight end is ready to get down the field.

Two consensus takes emerged about the Packers’ pass catchers following the 2024 season: the wide receiver room needed to be better, and Tucker Kraft needs to be more involved in the passing game.

Kraft was fourth on the team with 70 targets last year, coming in behind Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs, in that order. But he was the only one of those four to either be a full-time starter all season or play in every game. A player as talented and impactful as Kraft, he simply shouldn’t be fourth in the pecking order.

Is it as simple as just throwing him the ball more? Yeah, probably, but true to form, Matt LaFleur and company want to be a bit more thoughtful about how to get Kraft involved than that. Kraft himself wants to work to stretch the field more (see our first link below) and LaFleur has spoken in some vague but enthusiastic generalities about how he’d like to see Kraft grow as a pass catcher. It seems safe to say big things are in store for Kraft this season.

And given how he’s grown in his career to date, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this area of his game blossom with a bit more attention. We know he’s capable of big things. Now he just needs more opportunities to do them.
