Vikings Legend Says Packers Made 1 Big Mistake With Aaron Rodgers

July 19, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Rivalries never die. Even though he hasn’t played for the Minnesota Vikings in two decades, John Randle has some thoughts on Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

In an interview with PopCulture, Randle addressed the ongoing acrimony between Rodgers and the Packers organization. The Hall of Fame defensive lineman thinks Green Bay made one major misstep in its relationship with the MVP quarterback.

“I can see him trying to come back but I think one of the issues that came up was when they decided to go draft that quarterback,” Randle told PopCulture. “We all believed that Aaron Rogers wanted another receiver, and drafting that quarterback was more or less a slap in the face. And for an organization of the Green Bay Packers, you just wonder, ‘Why would you even do or attempt to do something to Mr. MVP?’ But that’s the Green Bay Packers. If they want, they can call me up and I can help them make up the decisions for that organization.”

As you can see, Randle couldn’t resist throwing some jabs at the Packers, Minnesota’s most fierce rival. However, it should be noted that Rodgers has said publicly that his issues aren’t related to Green Bay’s selection of Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

“With my situation, look it’s never been about the draft pick, picking Jordan,” Rodgers told Kenny Mayne on SportsCenter back in May, via ESPN. “I love Jordan; he’s a great kid. [We’ve had] a lot of fun to work together. Love the coaching staff, love my teammates, love the fan base in Green Bay. An incredible 16 years. It’s just kind of about a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it is about the people that make the thing go. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things the right way.”

In reality, Rodgers probably wasn’t happy about the Love pick, but his disagreements with the Packer front office run deeper than that. There’s not just one reason why he’s been away from the team all offseason.

Green Bay begins training camp next week. Time will tell if Rodgers actually shows up or not. If he stays home, then you might hear the trade chatter start back up again.
