Training Camp Primer: Focus on the Packers Final 53

July 20, 2025 by Packers Talk

Over the past several weeks, I have provided a three-part training camp primer for the Green Bay Packers. The first part went over the offense while the second and third parts discussed the defense and the special teams.

Throughout those primers, I went over each position on the team and tried to guess, somewhat educationally, on who would make the roster. Well, that’s what this final primer attempts to do. This primer will focus on my overall prediction on what the Packers final 53- man roster will look like.

Just in time for camp, which, of course begins this week. I know, I know – crazy! Matter of fact, according to Packers.com, rookies, quarterbacks, and injured players reported on Friday! It is here!

One last thing: this is just for fun and let’s be honest, I’ll be wrong! But let’s see how many I get right.

On to the prediction!

Packers Will Have 24 on Offense Out of Training Camp:

Packers

QB– Jordan Love, Malik Willis

RB– Josh Jacobs, MarShawn Lloyd, and Emmanuel Wilson

WR– Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, Dontayvion Wicks, and Bo Melton

TE– Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, and Ben Sims

OL– Jordan Morgan, Rasheed Walker, Zach Tom, Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan, Aaron Banks, Anthony Belton, Travis Glover, Jacob Monk, and Donovan Jennings

Offensive Notes

I have the Packers, much like last year, keeping only 24 players on the offensive side of the ball on the initial roster. Green Bay chooses to just keep two quarterbacks on the roster while hoping to keep Taylor Elgersma on the practice squad.

Additionally, the Packers will only keep three running backs. It’ll be a battle for that third spot between Emmanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks. Ultimately, I believe it’ll be Wilson over Chris Brooks due to who Gutey thinks he can get back on the practice squad.

Finally, the Packers are likely to go with ten offensive linemen in this scenario. The battle with the offensive linemen really comes down to actual starting spots.

Packers Will Have 26 on Defense Out of Training Camp:

DE– Rashan Gary, Barryn Sorrell, Collin Oliver, Lukas Van Ness, Brenton Cox Jr., and Arron Mosby

DT– Kenny Clark, DeVonte Wyatt, Warren Brinson, Nazir Stackhouse, and Karl Brooks

LB– Edgerrin Cooper, Quay Walker, Ty’Ron Hopper, Isaiah Simmons, Isaiah McDuffie, and Kristian Welch

CB– Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Nate Hobbs, and Kamal Hadden

S– Xavier McKinney, Javon Bullard, Evan Williams, Kitan Oladapo, and Zayne Anderson

Defensive Notes

The Packers, in this scenario, will keep eleven total defensive linemen and just like last year, will keep more edge rushers than interior guys. An additional note on the defensive line, the Packers will keep undrafted free agent Nazir Stackhouse on the roster and will have transitioned Karl Brooks to the interior.

Regarding the linebackers, Brian Gutekunst has mentioned that he felt like they didn’t keep enough linebackers last year, which is why I have them keeping six here. However, if they do this, they may only keep four cornerbacks. If they feel the need to keep a fifth corner, then they could just go with five linebackers. This could be even more likely if they feel like Collin Oliver can play the linebacker position well enough.

Last Three Out of Training Camp

Packers training camp Brandon McManus

The last three will always go to the special teams aces.

Kicker– Brandon McManus

Punter– Daniel Whelan

LS– Matt Orzech

The biggest thing of note with these three: it’ll provide some much needed consistency with the snap-to-kick operation. This is something the Packers haven’t had in some time.

But like I said before, there are many possibilities of how this whole thing will shake out and only time will tell.

I’m just excited to see it all come to fruition.

And as always,

Go Pack Go!
