There’s been a lot of talk about Aaron Rodgers and his future in Green Bay this weekend, with many reacting to the developing retirement rumors.
Rodgers, who’s coming off an MVP season, has yet to report to Green Bay this offseason. He did not show up for voluntary OTAs or for mandatory minicamp. It’s unclear when – or if – he’ll report to training camp later this month.
This weekend, a retirement rumor has begun to surface on social media. Multiple Las Vegas sportsbooks have reportedly pulled their Packers odds off the board due to this rumor. A Las Vegas sportsbook reportedly received a tip from a source who’s been right before, indicating Rodgers will retire before the start of training camp.
It remains to be seen if that source is accurate, but it wouldn’t be shocking if they are. Rodgers is unhappy in Green Bay and he wants out.
According to reports, outside of a trade, there’s really only one solution to the Packers’ situation with Rodgers: a mending of the relationship between the quarterback and the front office. It’s unclear if that’s even possible at this point, but it’s the only thing that will likely keep Rodgers on the field in Green Bay.
“Money’s not the problem. It’s his feelings towards the front office. It’s him buying into the GM and the team president,” Yahoo! Sports insider Charles Robinson shared in an appearance on “Brother From Another” last week. “… He’s talked about this idea that ‘it’s not about the corporation, it’s about the people who build the corporation.’ That’s what’s got to be mended here and that can’t really just be done with a contract.”

There’s been talk of the Packers offering Rodgers a big extension, though it doesn’t appear that the quarterback is interested in something like that. Instead, the Green Bay front office needs to figure out a way to mend the relationship with the superstar quarterback.
If the Packers are unable to do that this summer, we will likely see Rodgers sitting out the season, or playing for someone else in 2021.
Green Bay is set to open training camp on July 28.
