There’s Reportedly 1 Solution To Aaron Rodgers Situation

July 20, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Aaron Rodgers looking to pass.

Another bombshell was dropped in the ongoing Aaron Rodgers drama on Tuesday. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the 37-year-old declined a contract offer from the Green Bay Packers that would’ve made him the highest-paid quarterback earlier this offseason.

“This off-season, the Packers offered Aaron Rodgers a two-year contract extension that would have tied him to Green Bay for five more seasons and made him the highest-paid QB and player in football. Rodgers declined the offer, proof it’s not about the money,” Schefter reported on Tuesday.

The report confirms what many have guessed at in regards to Rodgers’ frustration with the Packers: it’s not about the money. Still, it leaves a massive question about what it will take to get the 2020 MVP back in Green Bay.

Yahoo Sports insider Charles Robinson explained that he could see the Packers and Rodgers coming to some sort of an agreement to get the quarterback back for this next season. Whether that comes in the form of a re-worked deal or certain assurances, Robinson seems fairly confident that things are headed in that direction.

However, the Yahoo Sports insider is aware of the fact that Rodgers’ relationship with the team can’t be repaired with more money or a new contract. There’s only one solution: Rodgers being convinced to buy into the front office.

“Money’s not the problem. It’s his feelings towards the front office. It’s him buying into the GM and the team president,” Robinson shared in an appearance on “Brother From Another” last week. “… He’s talked about this idea that ‘it’s not about the corporation, it’s about the people who build the corporation.’ That’s what’s got to be mended here and that can’t really just be done with a contract.”

Robinson’s hypothetical solution to the problem obviously isn’t as simple as handing Rodgers a bigger paycheck. The move would take significant work from the Packers front office to show the franchise quarterback that it’s committed to change. It remains unclear exactly what that would look like, but that might be the only way for the two parties to permanently patch things up.

Robinson’s other suggestion, a re-worked contract that includes a player and/or team opt-out clause, sounds a bit more realistic. If Rodgers and the Packers don’t find what they’re looking for in 2021, they can split and begin their new eras apart from one another.

Whatever’s going to happen to remedy the situation needs to happen fast. The Packers begin training camp next week and it certainly would be beneficial to have the 2020 MVP on hand when they do.
