The Packers Zach Tom Extension is a Steal

July 31, 2025 by Packers Talk

As the kids say today, Brian Gutekunst and Russ Ball “cooked”. Prior to the start of training camp, the Packers extended RT Zach Tom to a four-year deal worth $88 million. The details of the contract have since been released and after reviewing it, the Green Bay Packers are keeping a very talented player in town on a very team friendly deal. The Zach Tom extension appears to be a steal for Green Bay.

Zach Tom was a fourth round selection from Wake Forest in the 2022 NFL Draft. Since arriving in Green Bay, Zach Tom has not only exceeded expectations but performed at a high level. Tom was the fourth highest ranked tackle in the NFL in 2024, according to PFF. Tom has been an anchor at the RT spot for the Packers. Green Bay certainly felt the same way as they prioritized extending Tom this offseason.

Packers Zach Tom Contract Breakdown

Packers

Here is a breakdown of Zach Tom’s cap hit over the next five seasons, including 2025:

  • 2025 – $7,372,084
  • 2026 – $12,090,000
  • 2027 – $17,990,000
  • 2028 – $24,040,000
  • 2029 – $30,040,000

For comparison sake, the Indianapolis Colts extended LT Bernhard Raimann to a four-year, $100 million contract earlier this week. Although those contract specific details have yet to be seen, Raimann’s deal is already $12 million more than Zach Tom’s. Raimann is a talented player but according to PFF, he was the eighth highest graded tackle in football. That is four spots lower than Zach Tom. In addition to Raimann, the Tennessee Titans signed LT Dan Moore Jr to a four-year, $82 million dollar deal during free agency. According to PFF, Dan Moore was the 42nd highest grade tackle in the NFL in 2024 and he signed for $6 million less than Tom.

Dan Moore and Bernhard Raimann do play LT but the fact the Packers retained an elite tackle like Tom on a deal that blows its recent comparisons out of the water, has to excite the Packers. Especially, since Zach Tom is only 26 years old. He has not hit his peak. Tom still needs to play and play at a high level on this new contract to confirm the early speculation that this extension is a steal for Green Bay. Time will tell but off the bat, Gutekunst and Ball did an excellent job of rewarding and retaining a key, elite player for the Packers.
