The Packers offensive line is making the case to be the team’s biggest disappointment so far in 2025. The unit has struggled with injuries which has led to inconsistent play. It has been a constant juggle of different combinations as Zach Tom and Aaron Banks have been in and out of the lineup. Green Bay needs their o-line starters to get healthy and they need to find some level of consistency.
The Packers have practiced twice since coming off their bye week. In both practices, Zach Tom and Aaron Banks were on the field. On Wednesday, the team practiced in pads and both Tom and Banks participated. Now, the two starters were limited participants but it is at least a positive sign. Hopefully, Tom and Banks will continue to practice throughout the week. Second year lineman Jacob Monk, who spent the first five weeks on IR, also returned to practice. Monk might strengthen the depth of the offensive line. Rookie RT Anthony Belton remains out.
The health of the Packers offensive line appears to be trending in the right direction. Last season, the Packers were on the right side of the injury bug on the offensive line. That certainly played a large factor into their overall play. Stability on the offensive line is critical. These five work in unison and they need to be on the same page in order to play effectively. With the health status of offensive line improving, the Packers are desperate to find a stable, consistent group to put on the field.
The Packers Need For Consistency
Green Bay needs to find two levels of consistency with the offensive line – a consistent lineup and a consistent level of play. Zach Tom and Aaron Banks missed the Week 2 game against the Commanders. The two returned against Cleveland but Tom left after one play and Banks did not return after halftime. Anthony Belton came in to play RT against the Browns. Then, in practice prior to the Cowboys game, Belton suffered an ankle injury. With Tom and Belton injured, he Packers were forced to start Darion Kinnard at RT. The point is the Packers, in 4 games, have had three different players play RT. They need a consistent group of five.
Overall, the Packers offensive line must improve their play. The group needs to be more consistent. Elgton Jenkins struggled mightily the first three weeks but after calling himself to the media, Jenkins played a solid game against the Cowboys. LT Rasheed Walker, who has also struggled, has all the reason in the world to play better. He is a free agent this offseason so he could certainly earn himself a payday. LG Sean Rhyan, who grades in the bottom third of NFL guards according to PFF, has had severe issues pass blocking.
The Packers offense line currently ranks 20th in the NFL in Pass Protection Composite Ratings. As a whole unit, the offensive line is on the wrong side of the graph in both run blocking and pass blocking. In order to improve, the Packers might consider adjusting their starting five. It will be interesting to see who lines up where in warm ups on Sunday. If Tom and Banks do return, do the Packers roll with their original starting five – (left to right) Walker, Banks, Jenkins, Rhyan, Tom? Or do they start Jordan Morgan or possibly Darion Kinnard at RG? Either way, hopefully, the coaching staff found a solution during the bye week.
