The Packers Need a Hard Look in the Mirror

January 15, 2026 by Packers Talk

The end to the 2025 Green Bay Packers season feels like a scene from a horror movie. The Packers lost 5 straight games, blew three multiple possession leads, and lost several key plays to major injuries. The ending was the ultimate “everything gone wrong” scenario. As the Packers head into the offseason, the organization, coaches, and players need to take a hard, long look into the mirror.

There is a lot to be said about the Packers demise coming at the the hands of a Godzilla sized injury bug. Green Bay entered the playoffs without Tucker Kraft, Micah Parsons, Zach Tom, Elgton Jenkins, and Devonte Wyatt. Those five players certainly fall within the top 10 of most important Packers’ players. On top of that list, Green Bay was down two wide receivers, three critical special teams players, and two cornerbacks.

Regardless of the injuries, Green Bay still needed to compete and win football games. The Packers let three multiple possession, second half leads slip away during this five game losing streak. Green Bay failed to execute on special teams, offense, and defense. Both the coaching staff and the players need to be held accountable. The Packers either failed to make proper adjustments, became too conservative, or simply did not execute the play.

What Do the Packers Need to Change?

Packers

The Packers need to find some type of identity change. Even if the Packers and LaFleur agree to an extension, the Packers need to address the coaching staff and find a way to create a killer culture. It was made clear this weekend that the Chicago Bears truly hate the Packers. The Lions certainly feel the same way about the Packers. However, it does not seem that Green Bay feels that same level of hatred. Detroit and now Chicago have won the division more recently than the Packers. Green Bay needs a tougher, killer mindset.

All signs point to the departure of Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley. Hafley is now scheduled to interview for six head coaching positions. If Hafley is offered a job and leaves Green Bay,the Packers will need to find his replacement. On top of that, the special teams has been a disaster for years now. Does Green Bay consider letting go of Rich Bisaccia and turning to a different approach? Additionally, the offensive line needs to be addressed. The Packers either need to reevaluate the players they have and/or consider hiring a new offensive line coach.

The Packers cannot sit idle this offseason. They need to evaluate their culture, their staff, and a handful of players. Change is necessary this offseason. The severity of that change is yet to be determined but ultimately, the Packers have been punched in the mouth over the past month. Now, they need to determine how to punch back. Thankfully, they have time to find a solution but things will need to look differently in 2026.
