It’s sounding like we may have more of an idea of when Aaron Rodgers will likely be traded. Just three weeks removed from the draft, Rodgers remains a Green Bay Packer despite saying he “intends” to play for the Jets.
New York’s GM Joe Douglas has also come out and said that there’s not a lot of urgency to get a deal done and that the team will take its time figuring out the compensation.
According to ProFootballTalk‘s Mike Florio, the hunch is that a trade will take place April 28; given that one of the Jets’ second-round picks is likely on the table. Writing Sunday:
The ultimate deadline, if the Packers are intent on getting one or more 2023 draft picks from the Jets, will be the moment the desired pick is on the clock. And if one of the picks will be one of the Jets’ second-round selections (which likely will be the case), the clock strikes midnight at some point on Friday night, April 28.
It could happen that afternoon, in the window between the end of round one and the start of round two. It could happen even sooner, if one team or the other decides to just be done with it.
But if both sides are committed to holding their best offers until the last minute, Rodgers is still several weeks away from being a Jet.
… At this point, April 28 is the earliest day that makes sense.
Compensation has been the biggest hangup thus far as the Packers are giving up a Hall of Fame quarterback, but one that may only wear Jets green for one year.
With seemingly no rush, we’re all just playing the waiting game until it goes down.
