I guess Alexander returning to Green Bay is possible after all
ESPN’s Rob Demovsky, who covers the Green Bay Packers, dropped an update on the Jaire Alexander situation on Tuesday. Despite Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein reporting two days prior that the team is still looking for an Alexander trade, as they allegedly decided in February to move on from the cornerback, Demovsky claims that all options are on the table for Alexander’s future — including “reconcilation where Alexander plays for the Packers in 2025 after all.”
Per Demovsky, the two sides “continue to talk.” Alexander was present in voluntary virtual workouts for the first week of the team’s organized team activities last week. These are usually in person, but were made virtual because of Green Bay hosting the 2025 NFL Draft. They returned to in-person work on Monday, but Alexander didn’t appear in the photos that Packers.com’s Evan Siegle took of the first day of workouts.
I’m not sure how much “reconciliation” is really on the table. Alexander will show up to make his $17.5 million cash he’s due in 2025, but the Packers clearly don’t want to pay him that money. On top of that, the team reportedly hasn’t even asked Alexander for a pay cut, because he will not accept one from the Packers. Not accepting a pay cut is ultimately why Green Bay can’t find a trade partner, either.
On paper, the Packers’ decisions on Alexander are simple: Keep him on for 2025 at the cost of $17.5 million cash or let him walk for nothing. The two sides reportedly continue to talk, but conversations shouldn’t change that reality.
