Report: Packers to sign Colorado receiver

Welcome Will Sheppard, your (reportedly) newest Packer!

Entering Monday, the Green Bay Packers had three open roster spots, following the release of two reserve defensive tackles last week. How are the Packers going to use those roster spots? Well, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the team has signed former Colorado receiver Will Sheppard today.

Sheppard was the 285th overall player on the 2025 consensus draft board, making him a borderline draftable player. He was ranked slightly higher than Miami receiver Sam Brown Jr., who signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent earlier this offseason.

Sheppard started his college career at Vanderbilt, where he earned second-team All-SEC status in 2022. After the 2023 season, he transferred to Colorado, where he played with future NFL draft picks in quarterback Shedeur Sanders and receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter.

Last year, Sheppard was third on the team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, only behind Hunter — the second overall pick in the 2025 draft — and LaJohntay Wester — who is now a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

Will Sheppard went undrafted as a WR in the 2025 draft class. He scored a 8.72 #RAS out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 488 out of 3816 WR from 1987 to 2025.

The 6’2”, 203-pound receiver ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash, which wasn’t a great score at the position. He originally signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was waived with a failed physical on May 9th. He went on to try out with the Denver Broncos, but was not kept after minicamp.

Sheppard probably won’t be fighting for a regular-season roster spot in Green Bay, considering how deep the room is. Between Matthew Golden, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams, Bo Melton, Mecole Hardman and Malik Heath, all players who have contributed in the regular season or are high rookie draft selections, there isn’t much opportunity for Sheppard to make a splash. Depending on how his summer plays out, though, he could have a chance at a practice squad spot this year.
