Randall Cobb Took Pay Cut To Stay: NFL World Reacts

April 21, 2022 by The Spun

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Davante Adams, Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard.

In 2020, wide receiver Randall Cobb signed a three-year, $27 million deal with the Houston Texans.

After just one season with the team, the Texans traded Cobb to the Green Bay Packers. He once again teamed up with former teammate Aaron Rodgers, who made it clear he wanted Cobb back.

While the duo was re-united, it came with a cost – literally. On Wednesday afternoon, Cobb told reporters that he took a “hefty pay cut” to stay with the Packers.

“Randall Cobb said he took a hefty pay cut to stay in Green Bay because he wants stability for his kids after moving so often the last couple years,” Packers reporter Matt Schneidman said.

Fans obviously loved to hear about the selfless move from Cobb.

“Having Cobb back in Green Bay has been very therapeutic for fans like me, regardless of what he’s done on the field,” one fan said.

At least one other fan thinks Aaron Rodgers helped Cobb out with some money under the table.

“It was only a few million. Wouldnt doubt if shadow GM Rodgers gave him some cash under the table,” the fan said.

Cobb has moved around enough over the past few years. He moved from Green Bay to Dallas to Houston and back to Green Bay in just four years.
