Everyone has waited years to discover if Jordan Love has the goods to replace Aaron Rodgers. While they must keep waiting for an answer, they’ll dissect a brief performance debut in the meantime.
On Friday, the Green Bay Packers’ new starting quarterback completed seven of 10 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown in two drives. Discussing the performance on Monday’s show, Pat McAfee said Love “looked very good.”
He won’t hold it against Love that the Cincinnati Bengals rested their starters.
“It is not the Packers’ fault that Cincinnati chose not to play their starters. There’s been other starters that have not done well against backups and third strings in other places already this preseason,” McAfee said. “I think that you should be able to enjoy it when you can. The Packers should.”

His producer, Ty Schmit said he’s “very, very excited” at Love’s gradual improvement. He liked seeing the 24-year-old put a soft touch on a scoring strike to Romeo Doubs.
McAfee also discussed Love’s performance with The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. Both lauded the quarterback’s potential.
“I’m watching Jordan Love play football in that preseason game. I’m watching videos of Jordan Love. I’m hearing what his teammates are saying about him. I’m thinking Jordan Love’s a guy,” McAfee declared.
Packers fans have already seen Love take plenty of preseason reps over the years. The real test will come when he finally takes the reins in meaningful NFL action.
Green Bay opens the 2023 season against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 10.
