Even almost almost a week later it’s still hard to believe. The Green Bay Packers finally took the step from being “in every conversation” to actually being the conversation. In trading what they did for Micah Parsons, the Packers have signaled an organizational shift away from things they have done for decades. Even the day of the trade most reporters covering the situation didn’t believe Parsons would ever be traded.
What I want to talk about today are the people that told us days earlier that not only would he be traded, but that he’d be headed to Green Bay.
The Dog in The Hat
The main reason this article is being written, and one of the odder stories in sports coverage over the past few years. Twitter user “RickeyScoops” has made waves once or twice in years prior by getting stories right before any of the major outlets have them. Parsons being traded would easily be the biggest bit of news he ever broke however, to the point where even he didn’t expect it to happen:
A quick trip to the comment section tells you that nobody but a few Packers fans believed this. The dog was not deterred however. He doubled down ten days later claiming that the Packers had an offer on the table for 45m.
How insane was this early report? Enough so that the account announced shortly after that he was getting out of the “insider game”. At least until next year.
Packers Enhance Pass Rush According to Enhancement Specialist
The next source of Micah news came from an even strange place:
One day after Rickey put out his information on the contract, this post, alongside a now deleted Reddit post both made claims that the deal was done. While Rickey at least had some history of breaking smaller news stories, this is the kind of post you normally just roll your eyes at and move on.
Given that Brian Gutekunst confirmed however that the deal had been done several days before it was announced, this is either the best guess ever, or the doctors down in Texas really are tight knit.
Packers Legend Kay Adams?
Packers fans have real affection for NFL personality Kay Adams. Going back to last offseason when she made a prediction/encouraged now All-Pro Safety Xavier McKinney to join the Packers. Adams then attempted to further endear herself to Packers fans doing the same with former fan favorite Davante Adams. While that didn’t work out, Adams had become somewhat of a Packers fan favorite and someone fans considered trustworthy.
Then after the Rickey rumor dropped she posted this:
Seemingly nothing, but also given her past with the fanbase became something that made fans begin to believe that there was real fire to the Parsons smoke.
But the real story here stems from this tweet the week prior:
Absolutely insane and like the Cowboys actually trading Parsons, would never happen.
I have no more to say on this other than that I love this fanbase so much.
Has the Insider Game Changed Forever?
No, probably not. But I guarantee that Packers fans will not forget this saga for a long time. Maybe never if this is the trade that pushes the Packers back to the Lombardi trophy. All I’m saying is that if it does, is anybody opposed to a new Culvers on the corner of Rickey St and Adams Ave?
