Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said cornerback Jaire Alexander will be activated to the 53 man roster later today.
Alexander has been out since suffering a shoulder injury during the team’s Week 4 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Alexander, a 2nd team All Pro last season, did not have season-ending surgery on the shoulder in an attempt to return this year. The Packers had opened a 21 day window three weeks ago when Alexander was allowed back on the practice field. The team had to activate him today or lose him for the remainder of the 2021 season. His activation does not mean he will necessarily play right away or indeed, even practice much more than he has been. When asked if Alexander would be available immediately, LaFleur indicated that he would be worked back in “gradually.”
While it would be a surprise to see him out there on Sunday night, seeing the Packers number one cornerback return to the field in Detroit in a very limited fashion during the regular season finale is a possibility.
