Packers Star Unsure If He’ll Be Ready For Week 1

Figuring out Aaron Rodgers’ future in Green Bay isn’t the Packers’ only concern. Whether Rodgers or Jordan Love is under center in Week One, the Packers might need a stopgap option at left tackle.

Five-time All-Pro tackle David Bakhtiari tore his ACL during practice on December 31st. According to the Colorado alum himself, Bakhtiari won’t be cleared for the start of training camp. He spoke with Jason Wilde of the State Journal about his recovery process.

“This is my first time going through this, so I’m just going to attack every day, try to hit every benchmark I can,” Bakhtiari said.

Bakhtiari, who has successfully protected Rodgers’ blind side for several seasons, doesn’t yet know whether he’ll be available for the Packers’ Week One trip to New Orleans. He trusts his medical team and won’t rush back before the knee is one hundred percent healed.

“Once [team physician Dr. Patrick McKenzie] can check me off,” Bakhtiari said, “I can check myself and I can go out there and not only perform and protect myself but perform at the level that the Packers need me to.”

Bakhtiari was sorely missed in Green Bay’s NFC Championship Game loss to the title-bound Buccaneers. The Packers can only reach their ceiling in 2021-22 with a healthy Bakhtiari. But expect the savvy eight-year veteran to help prepare whoever plays left tackle in his absence.
