The Green Bay Packers have not had star pass rusher Za’Darius Smith available for much of this year’s training camp.
Smith, who has recorded 26 sacks over the last two seasons, has been out of action with an ailing back. He returned from the non-football injury list last week, but has not practiced over the last few days.
On Sunday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur admitted there was “concern” about Smith, adding that the two-time Pro Bowler could miss the season opener against New Orleans.
“He’s injured right now. I know he wants to be out there, but we’re going to be smart with him,” LaFleur said, via Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.

Smith has started all 32 games for the Packers since signing with the team before the 2019 season. He has not missed a game since 2017.
Green Bay has one more preseason game scheduled against the Buffalo Bills before they will open up against the Saints at 4:25 p.m. ET on September 12.
