Packers QB Jordan Love expected to miss 3-6 weeks with sprained MCL

September 7, 2024 by Packers Wire

The early recovery timeline on Jordan Love’s injured left knee has been set at 3-6 weeks, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The Green Bay Packers quarterback suffered an MCL injury during Friday night’s 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil.

Per Pelissero, there is optimism that Love could end up on the shorter end of the recovery timeline.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Love has a sprain in his MCL between Grade 1 and Grade 2, meaning he’ll “miss a few weeks but not extended time.”

The Packers face the Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans over the next six weeks. The team’s bye week doesn’t arrive until Week 10.

Love was injured while being hit by a pair of Eagles defenders on the third-to-last play from scrimmage on Friday night. He was in considerable pain on the field and eventually required assistance getting off the field.

Injuries to the MCL don’t often require surgery. Love will be expected to rehab the injury until he has enough stability and strength in the knee to return to the field.

The Packers entered the highly anticipated 2024 season with big expectations. Now 0-1, Matt LaFleur’s team must weather the storm of being without their star quarterback.

The current options to replace Love are Malik Willis, who was acquired via trade with the Titans in late August, and Sean Clifford, who lost the backup quarterback battle but was retained on the practice squad. It’s unclear if the Packers would consider adding a veteran quarterback to the mix.
