The NFL has not officially announced the featured team for this year’s Hard Knocks season, but many — including Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy — believe it will be the New York Jets.
If the Jets are the team for this year’s Hard Knocks, the show will feature several of Murphy’s former players — including superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Murphy said he’s “anxious” to see some ex-Packers on the show this season.
“Hard Knocks is a great show and gives fans an inside look at a team’s training camp,” Murphy wrote. “It also provides good publicity for the team. The downside is that it can be a distraction and teams are concerned that other teams can learn information from the show. The best thing to do if you don’t want to be on Hard Knocks is to make the playoffs every year. The league (and HBO) can only require a team to appear on Hard Knocks if they have failed to make the playoffs two years in a row. I’m anxious to see the Jets and the many ex-Packers on Hard Knocks this summer – should be very entertaining.”
There are four NFL teams, including the Jets, that meet the criteria to be forced to take part in the show. While the team has said they don’t want to featured on the show, there’s no question that they offer the most compelling story.
The other teams that could potentially be featured on Hard Knocks are the Chicago Bears, New Orleans Saints and Washington Commanders.
Jets training camp will begin on July 22.
