GENERAL/PERSONNEL:
Garvin is back after missing yesterday’s practice. Wood
The DNP list: Mason Crosby (knee) Christian Watson (knee) Sammy Watkins (hamstring) Keisean Nixon (groin) Kylin Hill (knee) Randy Ramsey (ankle) Rasheed Walker (foot) David Bakhtiari (knee) Elgton Jenkins (knee) Robert Tonyan (knee) Malik Taylor (shoulder) Akial Byers (hamstring). Demovsky – Garvin is back after missing yesterday’s practice. Wood
Rookie WR Christian Watson said his knee started feeling sore running and cutting on routes late in OTAs. He thought about playing through it, but ultimately he and the team decided on surgery. Watson had no timeline for when he’d be off PUP, but says it’s “day by day.” 2) Christian Watson’s injury that landed him on PUP was a knee. Wood
Matt LaFleur says Aaron Rodgers playing in preseason games is “up for discussion” with so many new receivers…. Wood
Ahman Green and Dorsey Levens both here today. True Packers legends. Nagler
QUARTERBACKS/WIDE RECEIVERS:
Two days of practice. Two days of Romeo Doubs being the standout of the day. Doubs and Gary take home the honors today. 2) It took Romeo Doubs all of 2 training camp days to realize he can hang with the ones in the NFL. We’ll see if he can continue in pads and when games start, but wow what a start. 3) And Romeo Doubs with another touchdown. Ho hum. 4) Oh my god Romeo. Just Moss’d stokes on a red zone fade. Dude is balling. 5) Big time collision between Doubs & Savage on a slant and guess who held on. Doubs with an impressive concentration catch. I think both players are ok. That was a big collision – both went for the ball. Herman
Aaron Rodgers finds Romeo Doubs for another goal-line TD* as the rook sneaks inside the goal line on a quick out and beats De’Vondre Campbell to the sideline. Whole offense comes over to congratulate Doubs after the play. 2) It’ll be really interesting when Romeo Doubs puts the pads on. He’s been raising some eyebrows early in camp, including a great catch in end zone over Eric Stokes on a back-shoulder throw from Aaron Rodgers. The MVP might be building something with his rookie already. Wood
Doubs vs Stokes is growing into must see tv. Really fun battle in team stuff. Nagler
Here is a link to an article on Doubs by Bill Huber. Doubs is getting a lot of love early in camp from observers.
Rookies and younger players getting some post practice red zone work in. Nice touchdown catch – Etling to Toure. And then a drop in the end zone from Hyman. Etling is spinning the ball a bit. Couple really nice reads. Herman [Etling is probably battling for a PS spot.]
Great play action by Love on a rollout and then a lofted lob that floated in the air perfectly for a Tyler Davis td in red zone. Herman [double post under TE section as well.]
Nice drag route from Rodgers to Winfree for a nice pickup. Herman
Rodgers adjusting protection, getting the snap off and hitting…Winfree in stride on the crosser. Gonna have to get used to that last part. Nagler [Not sure if this is the same play as noted in the tweet above. TGR]
Then another great throw from Rodgers to Cobb, who beats Stokes to the front pylon on the out cut. Stokes in good position, but not much he can do against a throw like that. Spofford
Smoke route and a quick throw from Love to a completely unsuspecting Osiris Mitchell. The newbie not quite on the same page with everything yet. Herman
Rodgers to Lazard over the middle, slightly behind but a really nice adjustment on the catch. Lazard keeps his momentum going. Herman [Putting in a Lazard tweet since I omitted a couple yesterday. TGR]
RUNNING BACKS:
Tyler Goodson is so smooth catching the ball. Just had a nice catch in the flat and then brought it up field – he may have been able to get in the end zone, would have been close. Herman
TIGHT ENDS:
Love to Tyler Davis AGAIN. We get a Gronk spike. 2) Workmanlike day for Tyler Davis, catching underneath passes that are there for him. Just had another from Love in RZ. Uglem
Great play action by Love on a rollout and then a lofted lob that floated in the air perfectly for a Tyler Davis td in red zone. Herman
OFFENSIVE LINE:
Starting oline is new today: Zach Tom with the start at LT!!! Tom – JRJ – Myers – Newman – Yosh. Herman [Ryan Woods noted that Tom was the 2nd team LT yesterday. Tom has great feet, but might need a year in the weight room – or not. TGR]
Rookie fourth-rounder Zach Tom is LT1 today. Yosh Nijman switches to RT. Royce Newman from RT to RG and Jake Hanson to the second unit. Matt LaFleur said today we’d see a lot of different combos on the line this summer. Schneidman
Matt LaFleur says Jon Runyan, who started at left guard last season and has stayed there most of this offseason, will get some center reps in camp. Wood
Gary would be sack against Zach Tom. Gary is off to a red hot start at camp. 2) Really nice pass pro from CVL against Enagbare – gave Love lots of time. 3) Gary would be sack on Rodgers against Yosh. 4) nice pass pro from Yosh against Gary. [Nijman is battling, I guess.] Herman
LaFleur on Jake Hanson on being the No. 1 right guard yesterday: Has consistently improved. “You’re going to see a lot of different combinations.” Huber [So, GB still sees upside in Hanson, which explains why they kept him last year. TGR]
DEFENSIVE LINE:
There are very few Jaire highlights because nobody is dumb enough to throw at Jaire. Just completely shut down. Herman
Gafford with a big hit on Tyler Davis. Offense wasn’t a fan of that. Herman
Defensive coverage has amped up in red zone big time. Hamilton and Slaton probably had love for a sack. Herman
Nice blitz by Krys Barnes and a quick pass rush by Devonte Wyatt for a pressure on Love. 2) Sean Rhyan & Devonte Wyatt with a fun heavyweight stalemate on a run. Fun matchup there. 3) Beautiful rep by Devonte Wyatt. Took on the double team from Tom & TE, set the edge, got in the backfield and made the stop. Really nice play.Herman
Nice read by Lowry on a tight end screen to Deguara. Herman
LINEBACKERS:
Garvin is back but Hamilton and Galeai remain the No. 2 tandem at OLB. Huber
Big edge wins from 91 and 52 forces Rodgers to scramble up the middle on third and goal to end ones reps. 2) Haven’t tweeted it yet but Rashan Gary has looked like a monster off the edge the past two days. Powerful, explosive. Hodkiewicz
DEFENSIVE BACKS:
Love to Mack for a td with Vernon Scott in coverage. 2) There are very few Jaire highlights because nobody is dumb enough to throw at Jaire. Just completely shut down. Herman
Beautiful play by Ento. Came over the top of Toure – legally – and almost came up with the pick off Etling. Really nice pbu. Herman
Great pbu by Shawn Davis – intended for Mack from Love. Was in the end zone. Defense celebrates. Herman [ This play caught Hodkiewicz’ attention as well. There probably are a couple of safety spots open for the taking.]
