No need to sugarcoat it. This past season was a disaster for Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Jordan Morgan. The 2024 first-round pick was plagued by a shoulder injury that forced him to miss most of training camp and the entire preseason, only to require season-ending surgery midway through the year.
Morgan’s rookie season ended with six appearances and only one start.
Naturally, there’s disappointment surrounding Morgan for essentially being a non-factor as a premier pick. But that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. Pro Football Focus recently identified early breakout candidates for each team in 2025, and Morgan was chosen for the Packers.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Starting center Josh Myers will be a free agent in March, and right guard Sean Rhyan was only solid this past year (61.3 PFF overall grade). The Packers took Morgan in the first round — and moved him to guard — for a reason, even if he played just 186 snaps in 2024. The former Arizona product allowed only three sacks and 30 pressures during his final two collegiate seasons. Expect Morgan’s pedigree to be unleashed in full this upcoming year at either guard slot, with the versatile Elgton Jenkins potentially moving positions.”
When the Packers drafted Morgan, they knew they were getting a versatile lineman who could potentially play both tackle and guard.
During camp, Morgan did take some reps at tackle, but right guard is where he had the best chance of getting on the field early. Before reaggravating his shoulder injury mid-season, Morgan had been splitting snaps with Rhyan. If not for his surgery, Morgan might have taken over the right guard spot full-time.
Yet, despite a rocky start to his NFL career, Morgan still possesses a ton of upside and projects to be a key component in Green Bay’s plans for the offensive line.
First, the Packers will have to make a decision on whether to bring back Myers. During his season-ending press conference, general manager Brian Gutekunst praised Myers for his toughness, leadership, and the chemistry he built with Jordan Love.
However, Myers has consistently been rated as one of the worst centers in the league by PFF, and no one would blame Green Bay if they wanted to go in a new direction. Jenkins could be an option if Myers is allowed to walk. The two-time Pro Bowler did struggle with snap placement during his lone start at center this season, but those issues could be ironed out with a full offseason dedicated to the position.
Jenkins sliding over would also basically guarantee a starting spot for Morgan. The Packers will have some key decisions to make this offseason, but it’s safe to say they are excited about Morgan’s future.
“I saw a lot of good stuff from him,” offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said in December. “I’m very encouraged for the future. Whenever he gets healthy, we’ll get him back out there and just keep working with him, but I’m very excited about Jordan.”
