The Green Bay Packers took a flier on a United States Football League standout Wednesday.
Per the team, the Packers signed Birmingham Stallions MVP and USFL champ Alex McGough to a contract with training camp right around the corner.
The 6-foot-3, 214-pound quarterback was originally a seventh-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2018 before bouncing around practice squads and eventually landing an opportunity in the alternative spring league.
And when he did, he made the most of it. Throwing for 2,104 yards and a league-leading 20 touchdowns while leading the Stallions to a second straight championship over the Pittsburgh Maulers.

McGough joins a quarterback room led by Jordan Love, Sean Clifford and Danny Etling.
This year marks the first time in a long time that Aaron Rodgers won’t be the team’s Week 1 starter after he was traded to the New York Jets this offseason.
The Packers also signed tight end Luke Musgrave and released center DJ Scaife.
