Packers inch closer to the playoffs

December 17, 2024 by Howard Brubaker

The Green Bay Packers finally broke through in Seattle with a resounding 30-13 win over the Seahawks on Sunday Night Football. With the win the Packers have gone 4-0 against the NFC West, which will be helpful should any tiebreakers come into play.

The Packers followed the win-on-the-road blueprint to a “T” by starting fast and taking the crowd out of the game. By scoring touchdown on their first two drives the Packers had the Seahawks chasing from the start. It led to relentless pressure on quarterback Geno Smith before he was knocked out and continued with his replacement Sam Howell. Both QBs threw interceptions.

Josh Jacobs was in full Beastmode those first two drives, touching the ball nine out of ten times on the first drive alone. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs did his version of Beastmode on the second touchdown drive, bullying through two defenders from five yards out for the score. He added an absolutely spectacular TD catch in the fourth quarter.

Defense came to play

On defense the Packers held the Seahawks to six points while Smith was in the game. Smith was 15 of 19 but an interception in the end zone ended the deepest threat with him. The only real blip was a 24-yard touchdown run they gave up following a Jacobs fumble that briefly let Seattle back in the game. The Seahawks only had 14 first downs and 208 yards of offense total.

It was an impressive win for the Packers, who may have a playoff spot clinched before they even take the field next Monday night. With a win over the Saints they would be in and would be 3-1 in their four straight night games. Not too shabby. The real test comes in two weeks in Minnesota against the Vikings. Go Bears!
