Packers GM Brian Gutekunst Reveals How Much ‘Input’ Aaron Rodgers Has

July 29, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers against Philadelphia.

After three months of acrimony, Aaron Rodgers is back with the Green Bay Packers and preparing for the 2021 season.

During the offseason, Rodgers indicated that his issues with the Packers were related to the organizational culture and how he had been treated. Now that he’s set to return with a reworked contract, it is fair to wonder how Rodgers’ relationship with the Green Bay brass will be moving forward.

In regards to communication between general manager Brian Gutekunst and Rodgers, we have some idea of how that will proceed. Gutekunst told reporters before today’s first camp practice that Rodgers will continue to have the “same input he’s always had.”

Interestingly, the Packers’ executive said the team has been “learning how to incorporate that.”

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said Aaron Rodgers has the “same input he’s always had” but added that “one of the things of this offseason is learning how to incorporate that.”

Reading between the lines, we agree with how Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio summed up Gutekunst’s quote.

“Translation: Aaron still tells us what he wants. We have decided to stop ignoring him, at least for now,” Florio tweeted.

It’s been well-documented that Rodgers has felt he hasn’t had enough say in personnel decisions in the past. Perhaps that is changing now, starting with the Packers trading for wide receiver Randall Cobb at his request.

We’ll see if there are other alterations to how the team works with Rodgers in the coming months.
