Packers Expected to Lose Top Weapon After Playoff Collapse

January 12, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Green Bay Packers lost a heartbreaker to their division rival, the Chicago Bears, and it may be the last game that impending free agent Romeo Doubs ever plays for the team. Selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Nevada product outplayed his draft capital and quickly became a key piece of the team’s passing attack over the past few years. Starring in a room loaded with several good-but-not-great players, Doubs finished his season with 55 receptions for 724 yards and six touchdowns, leading the team in each category.

Randy Moss he’s not, but Doubs is a solid playmaker who should earn a decent salary on the open market. However, the Packers might not be willing to match the highest offer. While he’s played well for the team, Green Bay currently has Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and first-round pick Matthew Golden under contract for 2026. Given all the depth at the position, the Packers might have to watch Romeo Doubs sign a massive free agent contract with one of the following teams.

4 Teams That Could Sign Free Agent Romeo Doubs

Tennessee Titans

The jury is still out on whether or not first-overall pick Cam Ward is a legitimate franchise quarterback, but the Titans will never know for sure until they give him a proper supporting cast. No rookie quarterback could succeed in last year’s environment, and the new head coach must do something to build around the talented Miami product. Romeo Doubs won’t do it alone, but the Titans can use $96.7 million in cap space to sign the free agent and still land more impact players.

New York Jets

The first year of the Aaron Glenn Era was a disaster for the New York Jets. Justin Fields didn’t work out, the defense was the worst in football, and nobody could stay healthy. Now armed with the second-overall pick, New York will almost certainly select a quarterback, and that player will need more weapons to find sustained success.

The offensive line is solid, and Garrett Wilson is legit, but one reliable weapon simply isn’t enough. Romeo Doubs may not be a 1,000-yard threat, but the free agent would be the perfect complement to Wilson.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers made the playoffs because Justin Herbert is a superhero. While the defense held its end of the bargain, the offense was an injury-riddled disaster. While getting star tackles Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater back will fix the offensive line, something must be done about the pass-catchers.

Keenan Allen isn’t getting any younger, Ladd McConkey didn’t make the Year 2 leap, and Quentin Johnston is much better in a depth role. Romeo Doubs would significantly boost the talent in the wide receiver room and would help Los Angeles compete in a crowded division.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints have their franchise quarterback in second-round pick Tyler Shough. Now, it’s time for them to build around him. Chris Olave is a good WR1, but the Saints traded Rashid Shaheed midway through the season. This team must find another reliable set of hands, and Doubs could be the man for the job.

Shaheed and Doubs are remarkably different players, so this wouldn’t be a 1:1 replacement. However, Doubs could be a perfect chain mover for this organization and help Shough develop while chasing the division title.
