The Packers have three very solid options at center so far this century.
Our all-quarter century team is heading toward the interior of the offensive line, where we veer into some very solid “remember some guys” territory. Who reigns supreme as the king of the Packers’ 21st-century centers? Only you can decide.
Center nominees
Mike Flanagan (1998-2005)
81 games played, 64 starts, 1x Pro Bowl
Flanagan’s career began before the year 2000, but he wasn’t a full-time starter until 2001. Once he ascended to the starting lineup, though, he was a fixture, starting 64 games across six seasons, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2003.
Scott Wells (2004-11)
111 games played, 100 starts; 1x Pro Bowl; 1x Super Bowl champion
After flirting with guard a bit early in his Packers career, Wells landed at center in 2005 and never looked back. From that season to the end of his career, he appeared in 58 of a possible 64 games, starting 56. Always solid and pound-for-pound one of the strongest guys on the team, Wells earned a single Pro Bowl bid in the 2011 season, starting every game for the team that led the league in scoring.
Corey Linsley (2014-20)
99 games played, 99 starts; 1x All-Pro
Though their careers were separated by a couple of seasons, Linsley was the ultimate successor to Wells, even wearing the same jersey number. But curiously, Linsley may not have gotten his first opportunity without an untimely injury to JC Tretter. Tretter had been installed as the Packers’ starting center in 2014, but landed on injured reserve with a knee injury just days before the Packers’ Week 1 game. Enter Linsley, then a rookie, who slotted into the starting lineup and never looked back. Linsley became a devastating part of the Packers’ free play machine with Aaron Rodgers, pairing with the quarterback to take advantage of opposing defenses for big play after big play. He has the unique career distinction of making an All-Pro team without being named to the Pro Bowl.
Josh Myers (2021-24)
56 games played, 56 starts
Drafted in the second round to replace Corey Linsley, Myers overcame some injury issues early in his Packers’ tenure to become a regular in the Packers’ lineup, though he was rarely an overpowering force. Never afforded any postseason honors, Myers’ claim to fame in Green Bay is a string of more than 40 consecutive starts from 2022-24.
