The Packers elevated third string QB Kurt Benkert to the 53 man roster today as a as a COVID-19 replacement for Jordan Love, who was placed on the reserve list yesterday.
The team also signed QB Danny Etling to the practice squad.
With Aaron Rodgers still dealing with a fractured toe and Love unable to participate, look for Benkert to run with the ones during practice this week leading up to Sunday’s game against the Bears.
A second-year player out of the University of Virginia, Benkert originally joined the Packers in May 2021 and has spent the entire regular season on Green Bay’s practice squad.
Etling, a 6-3, 222-pound, first-year player out of Louisiana State University, was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the seventh round (No. 219 overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has spent time on the practice squads of the Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos while also working with the Minnesota Vikings this past training camp. Etling will wear No. 9 for the Packers.
