The 2020 regular season has come to an end, and not only does that mean the Packers are preparing for a deep playoff run, they 2021 opponents have been identified.
The organization at least knows who their opponents would be for 16 games next season, but the NFL is expected to add a 17th regular season game starting next season. By adding a 17th regular season, the league would potentially move from 4 preseason games to 3 preseason games. The 17th game would be an interconference game and determined based on 2020 place in standings. That could mean a Rodgers vs Mahomes match-up, as the Packers would play the Kansas City Chiefs. We will just have to wait until later in the off-season to see that actually happens.
What we know for the Packers 2021 opponents is its the typical divisional rotations. The NFC North will play teams from the NFC West and AFC North, and by winning the NFC North this year, the Packers will play the division winners of all the NFC divisions.
It will definitely be a challenging schedule for LaFleur, Rodgers and company, as 9 of the 16 opponents are teams that qualified for the playoffs this season. Now, if the NFL does expand to 17 regular season games, that will be 10 of 17 opponents will be against playoff teams.
We will have plenty of time to discuss the 2021 opponents once the Packers off-season begins, which I hope isn’t for awhile yet. Here is the teams 2021 opponents.
Home: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, and the Washington Football team
Away: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, San Francisco 49ers.
