Only 1 Thing Could ‘Prevent’ Aaron Rodgers Trade Right Now

The New York Jets and the Green Bay Packers have been locked in the NFL’s most interesting staring contest regarding a potential trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers. But despite neither team budging, one NFL reporter asserted that there’s only one thing that can “prevent” a trade from coming to fruition.

On Monday, ProFootballTalk writer Mike Florio wrote that “only Aaron Rodgers could prevent trade to Jets from happening.” Florio explained that Rodgers will inevitably become a Jet – unless he changes his mind, as he has done in the past.

“Rodgers, as we’ve explained before, didn’t accidentally use the “I” word (intentions). It was, and still is, an opening to change his mind. To alter his intentions,” Florio wrote.

Florio made sure to clarify that Rodgers has been completely silent from an NFL standpoint since making his announcement last month.

“But in the 26 days since he declared his intentions, nothing has changed. There has been no remark or leak or anything from Rodgers suggesting that this is all taking too long, and that the delay has caused him to reconsider his intentions,” Florio added.

At this point, only Aaron Rodgers will keep an Aaron Rodgers trade to the Jets from happening — and there’s currently no reason to believe his “intention” has changed. https://t.co/7BX2wDzgZL

It seems to be overstating the obvious, but, yes, Rodgers does control whether or not he winds up being traded to the New York Jets.

If Rodgers were to go back on the Pat McAfee Show and declare that he no longer wants to play for the Jets and is all-in on playing for the Packers, the Jets will most likely end their pursuit of the four-time NFL MVP.

But at this point it seems far more likely that the Jets or Packers will fleece the other in a trade for Rodgers than Rodgers change his mind.
