Number One Receiver needed for the Packers this offseason?

February 11, 2025 by Packers Talk

Wanted: A number one receiver for the Packers in 2025.

According to one player on the team, that is what is needed on the Packers offense.

Earlier last week, Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs talked about the need to pick up veterans in Free Agency.

Especially a veteran number one receiver.

Jacobs said “I love the guys that we have. I think they have a lot of talent”

He continued to say “I would never discredit somebody’s ability when I see the type of work they put in each day”.

But Jacobs did think that a veteran presence in the Wide Receiver room would make a difference.

Jacobs said “We need a guy that’s a veteran in this league to be able to just elevate everyone”

But is Jacobs right?

Do the Packers need a veteran presence in the WR room?

Or do they need more?

Do they need a solid number 1 reciever?

The short Answer

To make a long answer short yes.

The Packers really number a solid number one at Wide Receiver.

Someone who is proven, and can come in clutch when needed.

Why though?

We all don’t want to admit it, but it just seems like there is something missing on the Packers offense.

They have the QB, the offensive line, the running back and Tight ends.

But the Wide Receiver room has a big question mark on it.

Even before the season started last year coach Matt LeFleur was asked about the WR room.

Though he said that he hates using the term “Number one Receiver” it might be time to get one.

Having one offers the Packers several benifits.

Number one, it forces the defense to focus more on one person, letting other receivers benefit.

Number two, It would give quarterback Jordan Love someone he can count on to make catches at key times.

The missing peice

This is something that has been missing from the Packers since they moved on from Davante Adams back in 2022.

A person who can divert coverage and be clutch when the coverage is focus on them.

Adams did just that during his time in Green Bay.

The closest thing the Packers have to a number one receiver is Christian Watson.

Watson’s size and speed forces opposing defenses to account for him whenever he’s on the field.

But this has been inconsistent, as Watson has dealt with injuries since he has been here in Green Bay.

Conclusion

The Packers need a number one receiver.

Since Jordan Love took over at Quarterback, he hasn’t had the benefit of a star Wide Receiver.

Favre had Sterling Sharpe, Robert Brook and Antonio Freeman.

Rodgers had Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams.

It’s time that Jordan Love gets his number one receiver to really showcase why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league.
