NFL World Speculating About Aaron Rodgers’ Free Agency

July 27, 2021 by The Spun Leave a Comment

Aaron Rodgers walks off the field in San Francisco during NFC Championship Game.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke the internet, once again, with breaking news surrounding Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on Monday.

Despite all the offseason reports suggesting Rodgers has played his last down in Green Bay, it looks like the 2020-21 NFL MVP will indeed play for the Packers this fall. What changed? Green Bay’s front office worked on a compromise which enticed Rodgers.

The proposed “agreement” keeps Rodgers in the green and yellow for at least one more year and then gives him control over his future during the 2022 offseason. That means by this time next year Rodgers could be playing for a new team if that’s still the route he’d like to take.

Obviously fans were looking forward to a potential blockbuster trade this offseason. But it looks like we’ll have to wait at least one more year when Rodgers will presumably enter free agency, sparking a bidding war throughout the league.

The new agreement, once finalized, would help set up Aaron Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay after this season, per sources. https://t.co/NojVojcHjy

As you may expect, NFL fans are already making their free-agency pitches. Aaron Rodgers would be one of the most sought-after free agents in recent memory if he becomes available during the 2022 offseason.

Take a look at what football fans have to say about the latest Rodgers developments and his potential free agency next summer.

An Aaron Rodgers free agency sweepstakes next summer would be absolutely wild. Probably even moreso than Peyton Manning’s https://t.co/sukGATi2Qv

Play out this year with what the Eagles have, don’t trade for Watson and go get Rodgers and Adams in free agency next year

I’m here for the ‘Aaron Rodgers 2022 Free Agency Tour’

His market will be ridiculous. Giants, Raiders, Saints, Broncos, Falcons, Minnesota, Houston…

Aaron Rodgers will be in a very similar situation that Tom Brady was in last off season. Teams will be preparing now for his impending free agency next March, full on recruiting pitches, NBA style 😎 https://t.co/Btj9XjwlKC

Looks like Aaron Rodgers is taking the Tom Brady route, setting himself for free agency. Will be interesting to see how much pressure there will be on the Packers to trade him midseason if it doesn’t look like Green Bay will be a contender at that point. https://t.co/wPS2ReRtJj

If Aaron Rodgers actually hits free agency next year, the Carolina Panthers should move heaven and Earth to make that happen

— Andrew Schnittker (@aschnitt53) July 26, 2021

So @AaronRodgers12 is following @TomBrady footsteps and is forcing his team to adjust his deal in order to enter free-agency earlier after they had decided to draft his replacement prematurely.

Brady waited 6 years before pulling the move.

Rodgers waited the 1 year. https://t.co/LTJkzMBXDa

It’s way too early to make any predictions as to where Aaron Rodgers will play in 2022. But it’s definitely fun to think about.

Rodgers and the Packers still need to come to an official agreement. Luckily, it looks like it’s heading in that direction.

Cue the Rodgers’ 2022 free-agency tour. We can’t wait.
