The Packers have one request of their fans this upcoming season: cut out the noise.
Fan noise plays a critical role in football games. A home crowd’s noise level can drastically impact an opponent. It could also impact the home team in certain situations.
Packers fans have been loud during the team’s offensive possessions during the preseason this year. It’s a growing trend, and Matt LaFleur wants it to stop. The Packers head coach sent a message to fans on Monday, requesting they stop doing the wave or “Go Pack Go” chants when his team is on offense.
“Matt LaFleur says he doesn’t want fans to do the wave or Go Pack Go chants when the team is on offense,” wrote Matt Schneidman of The Athletic. “He’s going to see how the Packers can get that message across to fans, perhaps by player PSAs on the Jumbotron. He loves the fans, he said, but he’s being serious.”

This is a pretty bizarre request from the Green Bay Packers, but we don’t blame them.
Communication is an essential aspect on the offensive side of the ball. If your own fans are being loud while the team is on offense, you’re going to have a problem.
Regardless, fans aren’t taking the request all too well. Some think it’s pretty surprising this is an issue in the first place.
Maybe someone should be worried about the team winning? https://t.co/CwBiqiBvgv

Others think this is long overdue. Besides, the wave is one of the worst traditions in sports.
Packer fans shouldn’t do the wave at all. https://t.co/pntcZUld57

I’d be happy if the wave just went away. Forever. From every ballpark, stadium and arena. https://t.co/rYAmXQo9FO

Will Packers fans obey Matt LaFleur’s request? We’ll find out at their next preseason game on Aug. 28.
