With the No. 149 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers selected Penn State quarterback prospect Sean Clifford.
The Packers just lost longtime starter Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the New York Jets, leaving backup Jordan Love and reserve Danny Etling as the only QB options on the Green Bay roster.

The NFL world took to Twitter to react to this draft decision from the Packers front office.
“Fire Gutekunst on the spot. Ban him from the building,” one fan said.
“Replacing Rodgers’ 18 years of experience with Clifford’s 18 years at Penn State,” another joked.
“My favorite Packers song. Jordan Love bout to go back2back MVP outta spite. Book it,” another said.
“Completely fine with this. We need a backup QB and we’ve got one,” another added.
I graded 353 players this year. I’ll be kind and not say where Sean Clifford was in the rankings. But it uh… wasn’t close to 149 lol. https://t.co/zanrb5xQi0

The Packers selected Love with a first-round pick in the 2020 draft. The former Utah State star spent the first three seasons of his NFL career as Rodgers’ backup, but is finally ready to take the QB1 position in 2023.
Clifford played five full seasons at Penn State. Though Love is heading into his fourth NFL season, he’s actually four months younger than Clifford.
