Aaron Rodgers admitted in a recent interview with Dan Le Batard that he was “50/50” on retiring before the 2021 NFL season.
The MVP quarterback held out for most of the offseason. Rodgers failed to show up for voluntary OTAs and mandatory minicamp. Trade rumors and retirement speculation swirled for Rodgers throughout the offseason.
Eventually, Rodgers was able to work things out with the Packers – for now, anyway – and showed up at the start of training camp.
However, Rodgers admitted that he was “50/50” on retiring about a week before training camp began.
“I mean, I felt going into the weekend before camp that I was 50/50,” Rodgers recently told Dan Le Batard & Friends podcast. “I don’t care if people don’t believe that. That’s true. There were some things that got me to 50/50 for sure, and you know I spent a couple of days in silence and meditation and contemplation and really felt like that I should come back. There’s a lot of opportunities for growth and exciting things in Green Bay and that felt like the right thing to do.”
Aaron Rodgers revealed on this week’s episode of #SouthBeachSessions that it was 50/50 on whether he would retire on the weekend headed into training camp.

The NFL world has taken to social media to react to his admission. Not everyone is buying it.

Some believe Rodgers could decide to retire in 2022.
“The more and more I read into Rodgers and the Packers, the more I think he is leaning towards retirement after this season,” one fan wrote. “From saying he was 50/50 on retirement a few days before camp started, to when he said he wanted to finish his career as a Packer, I don’t think Rodgers will have the resentment that Favre had at the end to try and get back at the organization.”
Others believed there was simply too much money on the table for Rodgers to retire now.
“$23 million is a lot of money, even for a guy already really rich. Aaron isn’t a fool,” one fan added.
Rodgers and the Packers are set to open the 2021 season on Sunday, Sept. 12 against the New Orleans Saints.
