The Packers are a quarter of the way through the 2020 NFL Season, and the NFL is through week 5 of the season. The Packers are the best team in the NFC north. They are also arguably the best team in the NFC. This could come back to bit me and I hope I did not jinx anything but I believe they currently are the way things sit right now after the first quarter of the season.
As Andy Herman, owner of the Pack-A-Day Podcast, tweeted out, this years Super Bowl is February 7, 2021. That would be 10 years and 1 day after their last Super Bowl win. How crazy is that? Wouldn’t it be awesome if the Packers could pull off another Super Bowl victory 10 years since their last one?
Do the Packers have some things to fix? Sure, all teams do. Their offense is firing on all cylinders in is one of the more prolific offenses in the NFL this season. Unlike last season, the injury bug has it this team with both Adams and Lazard some time, plus Lane Taylor and Billy Turner on the offensive line out with injuries and Kenny Clark on the defensive side. The defense has the bend don’t break mentality currently and down the stretch they will need to them to come through eventually. A great offense can cover up a mediocre defense.
At some point, the Packers are going to have to deal with the Seattle Seahawks. That will not happen in the regular season but come playoff time, a showdown with Seattle could be looming. That means, every regular season game is important so they can get home field for that potential matchup.
In the latest power rankings released by ESPN, the Seattle Seahawks were listed number in the power rankings and the Green Bay Packers were listed number 2.
This isn’t the same Seattle team as in the past. The Seahawks have been known for their defense in the past. This year is quite different. The biggest weakness the Seahawks have is their defense. Which comes as a bit of surprise to me.
Even though the Seahawks are 5-0, their defense has given up 1,292 passing in their first 3 games of the season. Easily the most in NFL history to begin a season. As this rate, Aaron Rodgers is going to have a field day threw the air against them. Now, their defense is not all bad, they are second in the NFL in forcing turnovers. Plus, Russell Wilson has given Packer defenses problems in the past.
The Packers have some things of their own to work on and some tough matchups coming up, especially this week as the Bucs defense is no joke. It has been a fun season so far, let’s hope they can keep it going. The bye week is always a fun time for me to look way ahead and think of the what ifs, but now it is time to get back to work. Start the second quarter of the season on the right foot.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Go Pack Go!
