NFL Network will broadcast two of Packers’ three 2021 preseason games live

Green Bay fans around the US will get to see a pair of the team’s exhibition games live this year.

For years, Green Bay Packers fans outside of the state of Wisconsin have needed to resort to creative measures to watch the team’s preseason games. The Packers seem to rarely have exhibition games broadcast on national television, forcing fans of the green and gold to find replays on NFL Network hours or days later or to subscribe to NFL Gamepass to watch in real-time.

In 2021, however, the expectation of watching Jordan Love under center is one reason why the team is making a prominent move back to national television in August. NFL Network announced its live preseason schedule on Monday, and that schedule features the Packers’ second and third exhibition games.

Green Bay’s first preseason contest, a home game against the Houston Texans, will not be shown live, instead appearing on the schedule sometime later on as a replay. However, their second and third games will be live on NFL Network. Those games are as follows:

  • Home vs. New York Jets: Saturday, August 21st, 3:25 PM CT
  • Away @ Buffalo Bills: Saturday, August 28th, 12:00 PM CT

While the Aaron Rodgers situation should be somewhat settled by the time the Packers get to their second preseason game, expect Jordan Love’s status to dominate the airwaves in these two games. The contest against the Jets will feature another young quarterback, rookie and #2 overall pick Zach Wilson, in some of his first NFL action, while the Packers-Bills matchup will see a pair of Super Bowl contenders competing.

For fans interested in seeing the preseason opener live, a Gamepass subscription is still an option. Furthermore, NFL Gamepass typically offers a 7-day free trial that could prove particularly useful for Packers fans around the country. The question then becomes accessing NFL Network for games two and three, but that should be an easier feed to bring in for most.
