Jordan Love has begun his first training camp as the Green Bay Packers starting quarterback. He has the lofty task of replacing Aaron Rodgers, but Love isn’t trying to directly fill his former star teammate’s shoes.
Per The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, Love told reporters Wednesday that he received a message of encouragement from Rodgers on Tuesday night.
“He said, ‘Just be yourself. Have fun. Enjoy it,'” Love relayed.
Fans praised Rodgers for helping Love transition into the spotlight. Some observers noted that Rodgers didn’t necessarily receive the same mentorship from Brett Favre when going through the same situation.
“Aaron did everything for Jordan that he wished Favre would’ve done for him,” Cheesehead TV claimed.

“When Aaron Rodgers’ final story is told, his mentorship of/friendship with Jordan Love in comparison of the transition between Favre-to-Rodgers, will be one of the bright spots of his legacy,” a Packers fan said.

“I’ve been a Rodgers critic for a few years now, but he’s been nothing but good to Jordan Love and I give him nothing but credit for that,” another fan wrote.

“Good on Aaron,” a fan wrote. “He treated Love right. And with that, I’m ready to close the book on his chapter with Green Bay.”

Between Favre and Rodgers, a legendary quarterback has guided the Packers throughout Love’s entire life. After watching Rodgers for three seasons, the 24-year-old gets a chance to carve his own legacy.
Speaking to Schneidman after getting traded to the New York Jets, Rodgers called Love a “good dude” He hopes the former first-round pick will find his own methods to success.
“(Love) gets a chance to blaze his own trails, be his own man and lead in the way he best sees fit,” Rodgers said in May. “Take the good things he learned from me. Things he would do differently, do ’em differently. That’s what I did when I took over.”
