The Aaron Rodgers offseason saga is over, for now at least. After holding out through the team’s offseason program, reportedly asking for a trade and even threatening retirement to get out of his Green Bay Packers deal, the two sides have come together on an agreement for the 2021 season.
There are no guarantees beyond that, but the Packers have at least one more year to compete for a Super Bowl with the 2020 MVP under center. The firm details of Rodgers’ agreement with the team are not clear, but it doesn’t include significant new money, per reports, but does give Rodgers more control over his situation for 2022 and beyond.
In any case, it’s a win for the Packers, at least in the short term. A lot can change in one season, as we’ve seen, and having Rodgers around, with his issues out in the open, may allow the team to try and win him over and prove they’ve addressed his concerns. At the very least, they get a full offseason to wrap their heads around moving him.
In any event, Aaron Rodgers is in Green Bay this morning. Interested parties, including Tom Pelissero and the mother of Pro Football Focus’ Mike Renner caught glimpses of the star quarterback entering the team’s facilities at Lambeau Field.

There were also folks on the ground as Rodgers landed in town late last night. This was the biggest offseason story for Green Bay since the years of Brett Favre retirement speculation. It’s no surprise that everyone was keeping an eye out for Aaron as training camp is around the corner.

Rodgers entered the 2020 season with a chip on his shoulder after the team traded up in the first round to draft Jordan Love. He put together one of his best seasons ever, winning the MVP award.
It is hard to imagine that he won’t be similarly motivated this year.
