Key Matchups in Green Bay @ Pittsburgh

October 24, 2025 by Packers Talk

The (4-1-1)Green Bay Packers travel to Pittsburgh to face the (4-2)Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8. In one of the most anticipated matchups of the 2025 NFL season pitting the Packers vs former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Today we will dive into the key matchups in Green Bay @ Pittsburgh.

Packers Defense vs Aaron Rodgers

packers swarming

First of our key matchups in Green Bay @ Pittsburgh is the Packers defense vs Aaron Rodgers. Thus far in 2025 Aaron Rodgers has been getting the ball out of his hand 3rd quickest in the NFL at 2.63 seconds. His average depth of target is also 3rd shortest in the NFL at 5.9 yards. This Packers defense relies on pressuring the quarterback, and hopes to sack their former QB multiple times on Sunday Night. A task that sounds easier than it may actually be because of how fast Rodgers has been releasing the ball. If the Packers want to come away with their first win in Pittsburgh since 1970 it starts with the defense stopping Rodgers.

Packers Offensive Line vs Steelers Pass Rushers

Packers

Second of our key matchups in Green Bay @ Pittsburgh is the Packers offensive line vs the Steelers pass rushers. The Packers offensive line will have their hands full with TJ Watt, Nick Herbig, and Alex Highsmith. They are an elite trio of pass rushers that can wreak havoc at any time in any game. It sounds like the Packers offensive line is starting to get a little healthier. Zach Tom no longer has a designation of an oblique injury, only his back. The health of Tom is of utmost importance this week with facing such a dangerous pass rush. Other tackle Rasheed Walker has been underwhelming thus far in 2025, which has to be disappointing for him as this is a contract season. He knows he is playing for his job and hopefully this week he starts turning his season around. If not it could be a long day for Jordan Love and this offense.

Jordan Love vs Pittsburgh Defense

The last of our key matchups in Green Bay @ Pittsburgh is Jordan Love vs the Steelers Defense. Through six games, the Steelers rank near the bottom of the NFL in passing yards allowed and have struggled mightily against tight ends. If Jordan Love can feed Tucker Kraft early and often it could be a long day for the Steelers linebackers. A healthy Christian Watson is looking to play his first game since tearing his ACL in week 18 of 2024. Watson could provide a big boost to the Packers offense with his speed that you just can’t teach. His speed could help provide some space to wide receivers Matthew Golden and Romeo Doubs. Make no mistake about it, this is Aaron Rodgers revenge game vs his former team, but that doesn’t mean Jordan Love doesn’t want to go out and beat his predecessor. If Love can keep up his stellar stat line in primetime the Packers have a great shot vs the Steelers.

Below Zach Kruse from ThePackersWire shared a tweet about Jordan Loves success on Sunday Night Football:

Sunday Night Love? #Packers QB Jordan Love on @SNFonNBC (4 career games):

11 passing TDs, 0 INTs, 121.1 passer rating. Four straight games with a passer rating over 115.0. Packers: 3-0-1.
