In the hallowed halls of the NFL MVP rankings, to pick up an award for that season is an honor all its own. However, to win more than one award in a row – consecutive seasons – is a rarity. For Aaron Rodgers, it is a reality at its best; the man has won two MVP awards for the last two years running, in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
However, could he be set to win his third MVP award in 2022, emerging as one of the favorites for the title – and make history in the process? So, let’s take a proper look at what’s happening and see for ourselves. Looking to have a wager on next year’s MVP? Check out these PA promo code offers we found on Gamble-USA, and make some bets!
Aaron Rodgers was the NFL MVP for 2020 and 2021. He starts the 2022 NFL season in a fairly unique position – there are few players who can pick up multiple awards back-to-back and fewer who can take home three MVP awards in a row.
It’s a difficult task for any player, regardless of the sport, because it requires an exceptional level of consistency and play. You have to be nearly perfect the entire season and then manage that for multiple seasons running. It’s a tough task for even seasoned veterans because that level of quality is taxing to try and maintain.
Aaron Rodgers has already made the list of elite NFL players who won back-to-back awards – and if he can pull the win back again this year, he’ll be one of only two players that have managed to do it – the other was legendary Green Bay Packers Legend Brett Favre.
Favre won three consecutive NFL MVP awards in 1995, 1996, and 1997. If Rodgers can do it too, they’ll be the only two players that have ever accomplished the feat in the whole of the NFL.
It’s probably important to acknowledge that there is a high level of difficulty that goes into winning even one of these awards. Players must be exceptionally skilled to manage this – there can only be one MVP – and so anyone who is lucky enough to secure it is a hot commodity for their team.
For Rodgers to have done this for two seasons running speaks to his skill as a player. Clearly, the man has done incredibly well to be able to secure the accolades that he has – most players are lucky to pick up even one of these awards in their career – but that just presents the bigger question as to whether he can do it again for the third time.
An NFL season is a long time, and the physical, emotional, and mental demands placed on players are big. There is a real need for consistent skills and bringing your A-Game to each game, which is a big expectation. It will be interesting to see if it is, in fact, possible – walking away with two awards would be good enough, but three is practically unheard of.
So, it is clear that if Aaron Rodgers can take home the MVP award for the third year running, he’ll have reached a level of infamy most players can only dream of. To pick up a single award for MVP is a great accolade; to pick up two back-to-back is truly amazing, but to secure a third on top of that would be a feat only managed by one other person.
It would definitely put a major feather in Rodgers’ cap, and it’s nice to see that he is currently one of the favorites to take it home. Hopefully, we’ll see his skills shine through, and his performance over the years has been truly exemplary. It’s just a matter of time before we see whether or not he is capable of taking it home for the third year running – or whether he’s destined to settle for two.
