How Close are the Packers to the Super Bowl?

February 11, 2025 by Packers Talk

The 2024 NFL season has come to an end. Now we have the next seven months to discuss the Packers chances heading into 2025. One thing is for certain, just when we think we have it figured out, narratives get put to rest.

The Philadelphia Eagles were in disarray last season. Nick Sirianni was considered on the hot seat mere weeks into the season. The team that started 10-1 ended in a colossal collapse. The questions were looming all over the organization during the offseason.

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves at the doorstep of a three peat. However, many found themselves not wanting to bet against the Chiefs, and rightfully so.

Nevertheless, the Eagles seized their opportunity and never let up. In the first five minutes, you could feel the uneasiness of Patrick Mahomes. From beginning to end, the game was a complete domination.

The Packers faced this Eagles team in the wild card round. Suddenly, a 22-10 loss has me wondering just how close the Packers are to a Super Bowl. While that game was extremely ugly, there is still promise on this incredibly young team. So, where do the Packers go from here?

Three Pieces Away: Where the Packers Need Help

Last week, my focus was on where the Packers need to improve in order to compete for a Super Bowl. I am not the only one who feels they are about three pieces away. Josh Jacobs, in an interview with Kay Adams, echoed similar statements.

However, the main thing I took away was how important it is to bolster the offensive and defensive lines. Cooper DeJean, a Packers fan favorite in this past year’s draft, had the game changing play by pick sixing Mahomes.

It is really important to not be prisoner of the moment. While DeJean’s play was incredible, the play in the trenches is paramount to win. All you have to do is look back at the Packers game against the Eagles.

Would it have been beneficial to have Jordan Morgan, the first-round offensive lineman drafted playing? How would the game played out if Elgton Jenkins, one of the best guards in the league, doesn’t go down with injury?

The Packers lack of a pass rush was painfully obvious all year. Watching this Eagles team still proves how close the Packers truly are to being a top contender. The defensive game plan by Jeff Hafley was magnificent.

The demons are right there in the NFC. The Lions, who are losing both coordinators to head coaching positions. The Vikings, who will most likely be starting a first-time quarterback. And the Eagles, a team red hot coming off a Super Bowl with the most potential to build a dynasty.

All in all, Brian Gutekunst reiterated that it’s time to compete for a title. If that’s the case, then it’s time to build on what he did last season. If Gutekunst continues to find his diamonds in the rough, then the Lombardi should be coming home to Green Bay soon.
