Green Bay Packers at a Crossroads: 2025 Season Preview and Betting Opportunities

July 29, 2025 by Packers Talk

The Green Bay Packers are arguably the most iconic franchise in the NFL. Packers Hall of Fame head coach and general manager Vince Lombardi has his name on the Super Bowl trophy. Led by QB Bart Starr, Green Bay won the inaugural Super Bowl by routing the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10 in January 1967.

Despite decades of success, 2025 feels like a crossroads for the Green Bay Packers. They’ve been a successful franchise in terms of wins and losses under current head coach Matt LaFleur.

The Packers have five playoff appearances in six seasons during LaFleur’s tenure. However, the lack of meaningful playoff wins since 2019 is creating a pressure-cooker for players, coaches, and staff within Wisconsin’s lone NFL franchise.

Packers fans located in legal sports betting states can claim the current bet365 bonus code ahead of the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Detroit Lions. Bet $5 to get $150 in bonus bets before this NFC North rivalry game kicks off at Lambeau Field on Sunday, September 7th.

To strengthen Green Bay’s aerial attack, Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst drafted former University of Texas Longhorns wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round. This was a big deal on draft night, especially since Green Bay is a franchise that is notoriously known for avoiding skilled position players, specifically wideouts, with Round 1 draft capital.

Golden will look to build rapport with the Packers franchise QB Jordan Love in 2025. Love was 9-6 as a starter in 2024, overcoming an early lower-body injury to return under center and lead Green Bay into an NFC Wild Card berth.

Despite making the playoffs, Green Bay’s offense was flat against the Eagles, scoring 10 points, with Love recording under 200 passing yards. The Packers averaged 27.1 points per game in 2024, ranked eighth-most in the NFL last season.

Defensively, Green Bay had even better production, holding opponents under 20 points per game. This ranked sixth-best in the NFL. It’s why most of the team’s meaningful roster moves during the 2025 NFL Draft and free agency focused on offense.

RB Josh Jacobs took on the role of a workhorse in the Packers’ backfield during his first year in Green Bay. It worked for a while, but Love likely needs to progress in his development this season to create a more balanced offense under LaFleur.

It won’t be a cake walk for Green Bay in 2025, especially playing in a highly competitive NFC North division that seeded three playoff teams last year. Love and the Packers play the Lions, Commanders, and Cowboys during three of their first four games this season, then enter an early Week 5 bye.

The Bengals, Steelers, Ravens, Broncos, and Eagles are all difficult non-divisional opponents that Green Bay will face after their bye week. As a result, oddsmakers have set the Packers’ 2025 win total to 9.5.

LaFleur recorded 13 wins in three consecutive seasons as Green Bay’s head coach from 2019-2021. Since 2022, the Packers have only logged 10 or more wins once, which happened last season.

Green Bay lost three of its final five regular-season games in 2024. The defense, which played well overall, gave up 24 or more points in all three of these losses.

The Packers’ schedule looks even harder on paper heading into the 2025 NFL season. If Love and the offense don’t make a substantial leap, LaFleur may be looking for another job in 2026.
