Golden opportunities: Matthew Golden is making the most out his playing time so far this season

October 14, 2025 by Packers Talk

For rookie Matthew Golden playing time has been here and there this season.

The first round draft pick though has worked his way into the starting line up.

With the injury to Jayden Reed in week two, Goldens workload has increased.

Not only had Golden made the most out of his opportunities but he has shown he can be trusted.

After a slow start in the first two games, Golden has shown his big play ability.

Each week it seems like he is getting more comfortable in the Packers offense.

Improvement over time

Beginning in week three Golden started to see more time on the field with Reed out due to a shoulder injury.

Against the Browns Golden caught all 4 of his targets for 52 yards.

His longest pass play was a 34-yard pass from Jordan Love to get them out of their own territory.

In week 4 against the Cowboys, Golden played a pivotal role in the Packers’ offense.

He had 5 receptions for 58 yards, including his longest reception of 46 yards.

Golden also caught a key pass in overtime to keep the Packers offense on the field.

Golden time

Against the Bengals Matthew Golden really broke out.

Although he only caught three passes, he was the Packers leading receiver with 86 yards.

Furthermore, Golden also had 2 carries for 16 yards.

In the victory against the Bengals, 13 of the Packers 27 points were following plays by Golden.

In the first quarter Golden caught a 20-yard pass, setting up a Packers field goal and the first points of the game.

The first round pick used his speed to get deep and caught a 35 yard pass from Jordan Love in the second quarter on a 3rd and 10.

That drive ended in a Josh Jacobs touchdown to give the Packers s 10-0 lead.

Finally, up 6 in the 4th quarter and the Packers in need of a first down, Golden caught a 31 yard pass.

That lead to a field goal to ice the game away.

Conclusion

Through the first two game Matthew Golden only had 2 catches for 31 yards.

During the last three game he has 12 catches for 196 yards.

Although he hasn’t reached the end-zone yet. his explosive plays have helped the Packers offense.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time for the Packers.

With two injured WR coming back soon, Golden’s sudden improvement gives Jordan Love yet another weapon in his arsenal.
