These two players with strong college pedigrees are looking to carve out roles with the Packers early on.

As we continue to move forward beyond the 2025 NFL Draft and towards the start of OTAs, information continues to trickle in about the newest members of the Green Bay Packers’ roster. Today, we find profiles of a late-round draft pick and one of the most intriguing members of the team’s undrafted free agent class to kick off Cheese Curds.

What exactly made Collin Oliver drop a bit in the draft is pretty clear to see. What made Jamon Johnson go undrafted is a bit less obvious. But both players could end up playing limited but meaningful snaps in the fall, with Johnson certainly facing a tougher uphill climb to make the team.

Meanwhile, Thursday was a fun day on social media amid the selection of a Chicago native as the new pope. While the assumption is that he’s a Bears fan, it’s fun to think of a person with that title having an actual personal stake in the Packers-Bears rivalry. Let the Chicago Pope jokes keep flowing!

Oliver’s foot injury limited him to a game and a half in 2024, which is probably the biggest reason he was still available in the 5th round.

Johnson is clearly a talented player and he has perhaps the best chance of any of the Packers’ UDFAs to make the team, given the numbers game at the linebacker position.

Texans’ Jayden Higgins makes history with fully guaranteed deal – ESPN
The Texans keep setting new player-friendly precedents for rookie contracts — this is the first fully-guaranteed deal for a second-round pick in NFL history — and other teams surely are not happy about it.

That’s kind of a bummer. I’m genuinely curious how much of the Packers’ run-heavy approach over the second half of the season was due to Saleh’s presence as a consultant for Matt LaFleur.

Two Popes Played for the Packers | SI.com
The new pope was born in Chicago, which begs this critically important question: Did any Popes play for the Green Bay Packers? The answer is yes: P.J. Pope (whom they signed off the Bears’ practice squad in 2006) and Bucky Pope, a wide receiver who played in the late 60s.

The fact that this is a controversy that needed to be addressed is truly hilarious. We finally have our first pope who has probably vacationed in Wisconsin and eaten fried cheese curds.
