Former NFL Executive Pours Cold Water On Aaron Rodgers, Patriots Rumor

News that the New England Patriots submitted a trade offer for Aaron Rodgers when he was still with the Packers before his fateful trade the New York Jets has triggered all kinds of debate on social media. But one former NFL executive believes it’s a bunch of malarkey.

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, former Patriots executive Michael Lombardi poured cold water onto the rumor that his former team was interested in the four-time NFL MVP. He pointed out that the moves that the Patriots made and the timeline with which they did them this offseason support the idea that the Patriots wanted to bring Rodgers into the fold.

“I don’t get the sense that the Patriots were in on Aaron Rodgers… Let’s just say I kind of have a sense on what they’re thinking in that building,” Lombardi said.

Michael Lombardi is certainly on the money when he says that the move wouldn’t fit with what the Patriots have been doing this offseason.

The Patriots have done just about everything in their power to ensure that quarterback Mac Jones has the proper pieces around him to return to his Pro Bowl form.

Suddenly going and abandoning those plans for the sake of giving an extra two-year window with an upgrade at quarterback would be very uncharacteristic of them.

Do you think the Patriots actually submitted an offer for Rodgers?
