Just over a week ago, Jeopardy! announced its two news hosts to replace Alex Trebek: executive producer Mike Richards and actress Mayim Bialik.
Over the past few days, though, controversial comments made by Richards surfaced, calling into question his future with the program. After plenty of criticism from fans, the show is making a change – already.
On Friday morning, Richards announced he was stepping down as the new host of the show.
“Over the last several days it has become clear that moving forward as host would be too much of a distraction for our fans and not the right move for the show,” Richards said in a note to the “Jeopardy!” staff on Friday. “As such, I will be stepping down as host effective immediately. As a result, we will be canceling production today.”
Of course, fans couldn’t help but start suggesting new names to take over for Richards. One of those was Aaron Rodgers – who guest-hosted a few shows.
Here’s some of the reaction from around social media.

Rodgers made his triumphant return to the Green Bay Packers a few weeks ago after legitimately considering retirement.
He previously said that he would have accepted the role as host of Jeopardy! had he been offered the job. However, it’s unclear if he’d be able to do the show and play for the Packers at the same time.
We’ll just have to wait and see.
