Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur provided positive injury updates on receivers Christian Watson and Jayden Reed before Thursday’s closed practice.
LaFleur said Watson was “doing well” after suffering an injury scare to end Wednesday’s practice.
“That was a big-time scare. He seems to be doing well this morning. Just got hit on the knee,” LaFleur said.
Not only is Watson fine, but LaFleur said he believes his third-year receiver will practice in some capacity on Thursday.
Watson was hurt while competing with rookie safety Evan Williams for a throw from Jordan Love in a two-minute period on Wednesday. Watson went down hard and stayed down for several minutes as the practice ended.
After practice, Watson said his leg had a bruise and was sore, but he avoided a major injury.
“It hurt a lot worse in the moment,” Watson said. “I’m just thankful.”
Elsewhere on the injury front, LaFleur said he had no long-term concern on Reed, who missed Wednesday’s practice with a calf injury.
It’s unclear if Watson or Reed will play in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns. LaFleur is expecting to play all healthy veterans — including quarterback Jordan Love — during the preseason.
